Housing First 101

Housing First is an evidence- and human rights-based approach to ending homelessness that is widely accepted across Canada. It focuses on housing individuals, first and foremost, while supporting them with other resources as needed. In other words, Housing First is based on the principle that people are better able to move forward with their lives if they are first housed, and housing should not be contingent on “readiness” or “compliance”.

Current work is being done to apply the Housing First framework to different populations including youth and Indigenous Peoples.

This collection of resources includes practical guides for working with various populations in the Housing First framework.
